INSTRUCTIONS for SOMATIC EXERCISES and PERSPECTIVES to EVOLVE YOUR MIND

This text-only exercise guide gives the most comprehensive collection of somatic exercises available in one place for improving physical comfort, flexibility, agility and vigor.

It's for you if you're a movement instructor who wants more instructional material for classes and/or if you're one of those students who hungers for a large variety of somatic exercises that produce a variety of effects and can learn easily from the printed word.

Suitable as guided instruction scripts to read aloud to "Somatic Exercise" classes and/or workshop participants (best if the instructor has practiced with and learned from them, first), as take-home instruction for clients (you may copy, and give selected exercises), and as a somatic (i.e., self) development resource for students-in-training in Hanna somatic education® and/or Feldenkrais Somatic Integration®.

NOTE: If you're planning to solve a functional problem in yourself by selecting somatic exercises from the book, I believe you'd be better off with one of the dedicated/focused programs. This collection of exercises is not organized along most-efficient lines to correct any given dysfunctional pattern. It's more a vocabulary of exercises.

The guidebook consists of six (6) modules:

  1. HELPFUL INTRODUCTORY IDEAS
    • How Best To Use This Guidebook
    • unique tweaks for somatic learning
    • mind-expanding essays
    • instruction in super-techniques
      -- and --
    • an introductory demonstration

  2. BREATHING
  3. YOUR SPINE & NECK
  4. JAWS, PELVIS AND HEAD
  5. YOUR EXTREMITIES
  6. HIGHER INTEGRATION

Each module begins with INTRODUCTORY IDEAS toward the topic of each module, e.g., for the Breathing module, "Coordinating Movement and Breathing", which fills out the topic of "chest" vs. "belly" breathing and provides a third alternative: integration; and such as, "What These Exercises are Good For" and "How to Recognize Good Results". INSTRUCTION for each exercise begins with THE ESSENCE OF THE MOVEMENT, a key action for best results, brought to your attention; and EXPECTED RESULTS, for the exercise to follow.

Bonus CDs of somatic exercise instruction systematically organize somatic exercises for specific purposes. In the audio recordings, you feel the pacing of somatic exercises and you get exercises not found in the Guidebook.

    A PERSPECTIVE

Hi Lawrence, I got the download. Right away, I got a lot from your knowledge today. I was able to eliminate my pain pretty fast. Very cool. Looking forward to more studying/practicing.

    Thanks,

Also, an update - I was dreading 12 hours worth of flying round trip from San Francisco to Boston for the fourth of July this past weekend. I knew ordinarily I'd be in massive pain by then end of these flights. By using your techniques, I was amazed to find myself able to limit and control the pain unlike I'd known before. Essentially I was in a lot of motion for the duration of the flight, as opposed to sitting "perfectly still" and hoping not to cramp. Now I know to stay in motion and listen to what is out of balance or needing stimulation / relaxing.

I know I have a ways to go to eliminate the quadratus lumborum pain, but I now feel I can actually make better progress than I have in the last 2 months of yoga, weight training, acupuncture and chiropractic work.

    Thanks much again,

    steev
